Expanded ASA ecosystem to be showcased at AutoSens Europe 2024

By ASA News October 7, 2024

Multiple live demonstrations including SerDes devices, Image Sensors and SoCs to take place at the BMW booth #352 from Oct 8th to 10th in Barcelona.

The Automotive SerDes Alliance (ASA) is excited to announce significant developments in the ecosystem of ASA Motion Link (ASA-ML), an open, multi-vendor standard for high-speed automotive data communication. As its adoption grows, ASA-ML is enabling reliable data transmission solutions across various platforms, vital for automotive sensor applications such as camera based advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). At the upcoming AutoSens Europe 2024 in Barcelona from October 8th to 10th, ASA’s expanding ecosystem will be showcased at the BMW booth (#352). The live demonstrations will include SerDes devices, imaging sensors and SoCs from multiple vendors.

Key Industry Players are Strengthening the ASA-ML Ecosystem

The ASA-ML ecosystem continues to thrive with the active participation of leading semiconductor and imaging vendors. The live demonstrations feature cameras using image sensors from suppliers that cover the vast majority of the automotive image sensor market: OMNIVISION, onsemi, Samsung and Sony Semiconductor Solutions. These demos highlight the seamless transmission of both video and control data over ASA-ML connectivity, showcasing suitability across a variety of image sensors.

The growing global ecosystem is further supported by ASA-ML SerDes demonstrations from AVIVA Links, JLSemi, Microchip Technology and Sony Semiconductor. Notably, JLSemi, a Chinese supplier, adds an additional domestic ASA-ML option to the Chinese automotive market. Alongside its presence in Europe and the US, this underscores ASA-ML’s global impact. All these companies contribute to advancing the ASA-ML standard, driving innovations in the automotive data communication landscape.

Showcasing Versatility with Leading Platforms

The ASA-ML demonstrators will feature both Qualcomm and NVIDIA SoC platforms, underscoring the suitability of ASA-ML for leading hardware and software solutions. The inclusion of the Qualcomm platform, alongside NVIDIA, highlights ASA-ML’s versatility and its readiness to support a wide range of automotive applications, ensuring scalability for future innovations in automotive data transmission.

Driving Innovation Through Standardization

Car manufacturers continue to highlight the importance of standardization, especially for communication technologies, such as the high-speed data communication provided by ASA-ML. By enabling interoperability across vendors, ASA-ML allows for more flexible and high-quality solutions. For instance, AVIVA Links and Sony Semiconductor Solutions have already demonstrated successful interoperability, which confirms the viability of ASA-ML as a multi-vendor solution for automotive applications. Also, in spring 2024, ASA successfully held a Plugfest in Hasselt, Belgium, where key aspects of PMA CTS (Physical Media Attachment Compliance Test Suite) were tested. The event showcased the importance of open organizations such as ASA for ensuring successful deployment of automotive communication technologies.

Further demonstrations are planned for the upcoming IEEE-SA Ethernet & IP @ Automotive Technology Day by AVIVA Links and Microchip Technology on October 16th – 17th in Detroit, Michigan.

ASA envisions more demonstrations of ASA-ML products in 2025, when the number of suppliers providing engineering samples is expected to increase to ten. For more information see our previous Press Release.
